Obelisk the Tormentor

February 12, 2012

I thought we should get up to speed with Obelisk the Tormentor since it is the first Egyptian God Card to be featured in a Yugioh Zexal Booster Pack. The pack name for those of you who don’t know is Epic Dawn, and it has a lot of old and new cards mixed together to create the ultimate pack!

I know that this Obelisk the Tormentor card came from the JUMP Collection, but this is what the card looks like. Obelisk cannot be Set and is immune to Monster Effects, Trap Cards, and Spell Cards. You can Tribute two of your monsters to clear your opponent’s side of the field of monsters. Obelisk cannot attack on the turn you use this effect, and if this card is Special Summoned, it is sent to the Graveyard during the End Phase (not destroyed). Obelisk the Tormentor covers up most of the card and looks really nice, but I would have preferred a better background.

This is what Obelisk the Tormentor looked like back in the day when XYZ and Synchro Monsters didn’t even exist. Elemental Heroes were not anywhere near reaching the public when this Obelisk the Tormentor made its debut. I really like this Obelisk because the background is blue and the wall background for the actual monster is perfect. However, it was very hard for me to find Obelisk’s complete effect online. I still remember those days.

So, the newest Obelisk the Tormentors have the actual effect making new duelists have the ability to see these effects clearly. Also, the new Obelisk the Tormentor emphasizes the monster’s abs and muscles showing the power of Obelisk. I think that is why the new cards of Slifer the Sky Dragon and the Winged Dragon of Ra aren’t as up close.

Which Obelisk the Tormentor do you like better? Do you like the old school Obelisk the Tormentor or has the new look caught your eye as we move further into 2012.

  1. I prefer the new obelisk, mostly because its PLAYABLE. You didn’t list this, but at the bottom of the old one, it says “cannot be used in a duel.” So yeah. On an art basis, i agree with you completely, the new one is ugly, but you can only put the new one in your deck.
